WNBC has promoted current weekend news anchor Gilma Ávalos to weekdays.
She’ll be moving to a weekday schedule, co-anchoring the NY station’s 11 am and 5 pm weekday newscasts alongside Adam Kuperstein, in mid-June.
She will also appear on the 1 pm daily edition of “News 4 New York,” available on WNBC’s streaming channel.
Ávalos joined the station as a weekend anchor and reporter in 2019.
She previously worked as a weekday anchor at KTVT, the CBS-owned station in Dallas from 2014 to 2019. Before that, she was a reporter at NBC 6/WTVJ-TV in Miami.
Born in El Salvador and raised in Miami, Ávalos began her professional career at News 12 The Bronx, where she helped develop the pilot that would later become News 12 en Español.
