Washington post taps Ebel to serve as Russia correspondent

Francesca Ebel

The following excerpt was sent by The Washington Post’s foreign editor Douglas Jehl, deputy foreign editor Jennifer Amur, interim deputy editor Susan Levine and Russia and Eastern Europe editor David M. Herszenhorn:

We’re very happy to announce that Francesca Ebel will join The Post as a Russia correspondent, joining a team dedicated to covering Russia at a time when its war in Ukraine has dramatically changed its relationship with most of the world.

Francesca comes to us from Tunisia, where she has been a correspondent for the Associated Press. She is a fluent Russian speaker who previously spent four years in Moscow for the AP and other news organizations.

Francesca began her journalism career as a freelance conflict-zone reporter who traveled to Ukraine in 2014 to cover the country’s war with Russian-backed separatists. She later reported from Kyiv and Moscow for the Kyiv Post, the BBC, Politico Europe, and other news organizations before joining the AP in 2017 as a multimedia journalist.

Francesca graduated from Cambridge University with a bachelor’s degree in modern and medieval languages.
