Washington Post taps Clemons as director of operations and strategy, Opinion

The Washington Post has named Becca Clemons Opinion section’s first director of operations and strategy.

In her new role, Clemons will continue to oversee the Post’s online presence while helping deepen reader engagement and subscriber attraction and retention across a range of platforms.

As per the Post’s editorial page editor Fred Hiatt:

Becca came to The Post as an Opinions copy editor in 2014. In 2018 she became our first operations manager. In that role she has recruited and led an extraordinarily talented team that every day helps our content find the audience it deserves. Becca also helps set publishing standards across the Opinions section, advising MPE editors, op-ed editors, columnists and editorial writers on best practices for audience engagement. Now she will continue in that leadership role while she helps position us for quality and growth in the months and years ahead.”

Clemons joined the Post from The Seattle Times where she worked as a copy-editing intern. She has also served as Washington bureau reporting intern at The Los Angeles Times. She also served as a copy-editing intern at The New York Times.

Clemons has also worked as a summer editor, managing editor and editor-in-chief at Kentucky Kernel. She was also a Pulliam fellow at The Arizona Republic, where she copy-edited for The Republic’s 18 community newspapers and did general assignment reporting.

Additionally, she has also interned at Lexington Herald-Leader and The Oldham Era.

Clemons earned her Bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Kentucky.
