The Washington Post has named Cameron Barr, one of four managing editors, to be its acting executive editor ahead of Marty Baron’s departure on Feb. 28, reports The New York Post.
“The search for the next Executive Editor is actively underway with a broad and diverse group of exceptional journalists,” said publisher Fred Ryan. “It will not be complete prior to Marty’s departure at the end of this month.”
Barr will lead the paper while the search for a permanent replacement continues.
Barr has been with the Post for more than 15 years, joining as a general assignment reporter. He held several other roles, including Middle East editor, national security editor, deputy national editor and national editor.
Prior to joining the Post, Barr was with The Christian Science Monitor for 14 years, joining as deputy foreign editor; South Asia correspondent; feature writer. He then served as Tokyo bureau chief, before holding the post of Middle East correspondent.
He was also a staff reporter at The American Lawyer and a staff writer at The Central New Jersey Home News, and has worked as a desk assistant/researcher at NBC News.
