Washington Post taps Akkad as visual enterprise editor

Reem Akkad

Reem Akkad will be joining The Washington Post foreign desk as a visual enterprise editor overseeing visually driven projects, including editing the text for those projects.

She will be responsible for elevating visual storytelling to a more central place, and her work will involve strong partnerships with foreign desk editors and correspondents as well as the photo, video, graphics, audience and audio editors whose responsibilities include international news.

Her new role begins Apr. 13.

Akkad has been with The Post for 5 years, most recently serving as senior producer for original video. Prior to that, she was at Al Jazeera Media Network for more than 8 years, joining as a producer/writer and then serving as deputy program editor (line producer/copy editor). She then became program editor (senior producer) of Inside Story America and was then made fault lines senior planning producer.

Akkad has also worked at ABC News, joining as an associate producer, and then serving as an associate producer/off-air reporter, before becoming producer for Good Morning America Weekend.

Akkad is a B.A. in communications and business from The University of Texas at Austin and holds a Master’s degree in international media and communications, and Middle East from Columbia.
