Washington Post Opinions has announced the launch of a weekly newsletter by columnist Karen Attiah, starting August 5. In each Friday edition, Attiah will share her distinct worldview on a wide spectrum of topics beyond the headlines and will explore, through personal narratives and interviews, how to navigate the impact these events have on individuals and society as a whole. Readers will be invited to submit suggestions for future topics to be highlighted via a form in the newsletter.

Attiah writes:

Readers of my columns know that my interests range widely across topics such as progressive politics, pop culture and global affairs. In this newsletter, I plan to expand on those interests, but also provide an intimate and interactive space to spotlight the personal things that improve our communities, groups who tend to get overlooked by the news, and the ordinary people enacting change. I hope this can be a space for connection with readers and other world-weary-but-determined idealists who share in the issues I care about.”

Attiah’s is the latest offering in an expanding roster of Opinions newsletters, which includes “The Checkup With Dr. Wen” and “The Week in Ideas.”

We’ve seen an appetite from our readers to connect more closely with our writers, particularly to help them make sense of the news. The newsletter format has proven to be a successful one for deepening that relationship,” said Ruth Marcus, deputy editorial page editor. “With the addition of this latest newsletter, we aim to cultivate a community for those drawn to Karen’s unique perspective on global, domestic and cultural affairs.”
