Washington Post names Reinhard political investigations reporter

In her five years at The Washington Post, Beth has demonstrated her skill at landing deeply reported pieces that hold the powerful to account, whether in Congress, professional sports owner suites or the White House.

She comes to National from the Rapid Response investigations team, which she joined in August 2017, just as the team launched. Two months later, she was in Alabama talking to women who said they were pursued or molested by Roy Moore, a Senate candidate, when they were teens. After her first story, with Stephanie McCrummen, Beth was approached by a Project Veritas agent pretending to be another Moore victim. That led to more stories and a team effort that won the Pulitzer, Polk and Toner awards.

Beth later dug into the congressional career and gubernatorial aims of Rep. Tom Reed of New York, detailing claims of sexual misconduct against him by a former lobbyist. Reed apologized in the wake of that reporting and announced he would drop his bid for governor and his reelection plans.

The Washington Football Team’s mistreatment and exploitation of female employees was the subject of a wide-ranging project that Beth helped anchor in 2020 alongside several other reporters. The work detailed how the team’s owner and senior executives fostered a poisonous atmosphere where female workers faced unyielding harassment. That project won the Associated Press Sports Editors’ top investigative reporting award.

Beth has partnered with virtually every corner of the newsroom on a wide range of targets, including stories on misspending by the National Rifle Association, pardons that President Donald Trump granted to well-connected offenders, and the success of the Saudis in building a Washington influence machine. She was also part of the team that reported the Pulitzer-winning Jan. 6 project.

Beth previously reported on politics and a variety of other topics at the Wall Street Journal, National Journal magazine and her hometown newspaper, the Miami Herald. She also has worked at the Palm Beach Post and the Home News Tribune in New Jersey. She has a bachelor’s degree in English from University of Pennsylvania and a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University. Beth lives in Falls Church with her husband, two daughters and beloved rescue dog.
