Washington Post names Kirkpatrick visual reporter in Graphics

The Washington Post has appointed Nick Kirkpatrick as a visual reporter in Graphics as part of The Post’s visual expansion.

His new role begins Feb. 22.

In his new role, Kirkpatrick will report and write for visual projects led by Graphics and Design, while also weaving text and visuals into strong narratives. He will also partner with others on graphics, photo and video-driven stories and help research information necessary for graphics.

Kirkpatrick has been with the Post for more than 7 years now, stating as a photo editor, Morning Mix. He then moved on to become International photo editor, before serving as photo editor, Amp stories. Recently, he was photo editor, special projects and investigations.

Kirkpatrick was part of the team that developed the visual storytelling format optimized for mobile known as STAMP.

Kirkpatrick has also worked as a freelance multimedia photographer and editor for several publications, including The Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, Al Jazeera English, Poynter Institute, and Teach for America.

He was also a contact photo editor and researcher at The Washington Post. Before that, he was a photo editing intern at the Post. He was also as an intern photographer at the Religion News Service and the Montgomery County Gazette.

Kirkpatrick is a B.F.A. in Photojournalism from the Corcoran College of Art and Design.
