Washington Post names Fahim Middle East bureau chief

The Washington Post has tapped Kareem Fahim as Middle East bureau chief. In his new role, he will oversee the Beirut bureau and its coverage of Syria and Lebanon. He will also cover the Persian Gulf, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar.

Fahim joined the Post in 2016 as Istanbul bureau chief and since then has worked with the Middle East team. He will also continue to cover Turkey and Iran in the months ahead.

Previously, Fahim has reported for The New York Times as a Cairo-based correspondent and for The Village Voice.

Fahim graduated from Occidental College and Columbia University.
