Washington Post managing editor Jason Anders sent out the following:
All,
I’m thrilled to announce that Annah Aschbrenner is named Senior Editor on the Hub, responsible for driving news coverage across The Washington Post.
Annah is a dynamic editor who has been at the center of some of our biggest stories. In her new role, she will lead a team of breaking-news reporters and work closely with other coverage leaders to make sure we are urgent and indispensable on the most important stories of the day. She will play a key role in shaping our coverage strategy around major news moments, working with the audience team to identify opportunities where The Post can have significant impact and ensuring we are deploying in ways that give our work the widest possible reach.
Annah most recently served as Deputy White House Editor where she helped guide coverage of President Donald Trump’s second term. She edited work that scooped details about the Heritage Foundation’s inner turmoil, chronicled potential conflicts among donors to Trump’s inaugural committee and detailed the ongoing power shifts in the MAGA movement. She ran The Post’s live file the night Trump was shot. Coverage from that night and the aftermath was awarded the 2025 Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News. Annah joined The Post in 2022 as Congress Editor.
Previously, Annah was at USA Today, where she shepherded coverage of the White House, Congress and national politics, and ran coverage of the 2020 election. She also worked at the Des Moines Register for six years, where in different roles she directed the politics team and oversaw coverage of metro, investigations, business and features. Annah began her journalism career as a high school news clerk at the Muskegon Chronicle in her hometown of Muskegon, Mich.
Annah is moving to her new role right away, and we’ll share more details about the team soon. Please join me in congratulating her.
Jason
