Azi Paybarah has joined The Washington Post as a reporter on the National politics breaking news team. Recently, Paybarah was a reporter on the Politics desk at The New York Times, which he joined in 2018. There, he was part of the team that won a Pulitzer Prize in 2021 for coverage of the coronavirus pandemic.
Prior to the Times, he co-founded the politics podcast FAQ NYC. He covered politics for The New York Observer, WNYC Public Radio and Politico New York.
Paybarah began his career at The Queens Tribune in 2003 and worked at the New York Press and The New York Sun.
Paybarah graduated from the State University of New York at Albany.
