Washington Post appoints Masih breaking news reporter for Seoul hub

The following excerpt was sent out from The Washington Post’s foreign editor Douglas Jehl, deputy foreign editor Jennifer Amur and Seoul hub editor Kendra Nichols:

We are very happy to announce that Niha Masih will become a breaking news reporter at our hub in Seoul.

Niha Masih

Niha is a reporter for The Post’s bureau in New Delhi, where her tenacity and eye for great stories have made her a key part of our India coverage. Her promotion to a staff role recognizes the skill and agility she has shown in reporting more broadly, including a recent standout run in Sri Lanka as protesters toppled the government.

Niha joins us as part of an expansion under which the Seoul and London operations will grow by 40 percent this year, to 14 full-time staffers in each location.

Niha joined The Post in 2019 and has partnered successfully with successive India bureau chiefs, first Joanna Slater and then Gerry Shih.

She began her career as a correspondent for New Delhi Television, helping to launch an award-winning news documentary show and reporting from Gaza, Egypt and Myanmar. She has also worked as a producer for Huffington Post, as a freelance journalist in New York and New Delhi, and as a national affairs writer for the Hindustan Times.

Niha is a graduate of Lady Shri Ram College, in New Delhi, with a bachelor’s degree in English literature; Jamia University, in New Delhi, with a master’s degree in convergent journalism; and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, with a master’s degree in politics and global affairs.

Niha will start at the Seoul hub on Dec. 5.
