Washington Post appoints Broyles senior editor for career development

The Washington Post has tapped Carla Broyles as senior editor for career development. In her new role, she will oversee the Post’s summer internship and its academic year internships with Howard University, the University of Maryland and American University.

She will also facilitate newsroom programs, including Opportunity Year and guide the Post’s training relationship with the Poynter Institute. She will also be working with newsroom leaders and will continue to co-lead the annual Leadership Academy for Diversity in Media with Poynter.

She will also be managing partnerships with Dow Jones News Fund and the Ida B. Wells Society for Investigative Reporting internship, among others.

Broyles joined the Post in 1999, and has worked with just every department, including serving as deputy news editor, graphics editor, art director and staff writer. Prior to moving to recruiting and training, she was an editor of the National Weekly edition.

Broyles is an award-winning visual storyteller and was awarded a Nieman Fellowship at Harvard University.
