The Root has appointed Jessica Washington as a senior reporter, covering race and gender justice. She joins from the Fuller Project for International Reporting, where she covered gender, race and inequality.
She formerly worked on a long-term investigation funded by USC to cover the impact of the child welfare system in Minnesota on Native families. She was also a fellow at Mother Jones and has worked assistant roles at MSNBC and NBC News.
Washington graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, where she worked at the student paper.
