WaPo welcomes back Fifield as Asia-Pacific editor

Anna Fifield

Anna Fifield will rejoin The Washington Post as Asia-Pacific editor. As per the Post:

“She will lead a team that includes our correspondents responsible for China, Japan, the Koreas, Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific, and she will also work in close partnership with editors in Washington to drive other lines of China-related coverage. She will remain based in her native New Zealand, in a time zone that will allow her to build strong working relationships across the Asia team.”

She begins Jan. 3, 2023.

For the past two years, Fifield has been editor of The Dominion Post in Morgantown, W. Va. and the Wellington editor at Stuff. Before that, she served as Tokyo and Beijing bureau chiefs at The Washington Post.

At the Financial Times, Fifield covered Australia, South Korea, the Middle East and U.S. politics. She began her career with New Zealand’s Rotorua Daily Post and the New Zealand Press Association.

Fifield was a Nieman journalism fellow at Harvard University and in 2018 won Stanford University’s Shorenstein Prize for excellence in reporting on Asia.

Be sure to congratulate Fifield via Twitter.
