WaPo taps Bailey for new assignment in Atlanta

The following excerpt was sent out from The Washington Post’s national editor Matea Gold, deputy national editor Philip Rucker and America desk editor Cathleen Decker:

Holly Bailey

We are delighted to announce that national correspondent Holly Bailey is taking on a new assignment based in Atlanta, with the mission of covering a swath of the country from the upper South to the Great Lakes.

From her new home base, Holly will cover the biggest stories and political and cultural forces shaping life in this key region, as well as continue to anchor our coverage of the Fulton County investigation into efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

In her three years on the America desk, Holly has been known for her deep reporting and elegant writing.

Holly first joined The Post in March 2019 as a campaign reporter, covering the 2020 Democratic contest and logging ample time in the critical state of Iowa. Before that, she served as a national correspondent for Yahoo News covering politics, culture and major national news and worked for Newsweek, where she was a White House correspondent covering the presidencies of George W. Bush and Barack Obama. Her book “The Mercy of the Sky,” about a massive tornado in her home state of Oklahoma, was published in 2015 by Viking and was the recipient of the Oklahoma Book Award and the American Meteorological Society’s 2017 Lewis J. Battan Award for distinguished reporting. Holly is also a skilled and award-winning photographer, whose Instagram feed serves as a curation of visual excellence by her and others.

We’re excited for the revelatory coverage Holly will produce in her new assignment, which begins immediately.
