WaPo names three deputy managing editors

Ann Gerhart

Ann Gerhart, a senior editor for visual enterprise at The Washington Post, has been named deputy managing editor. She joined the Post in 1995 as “Reliable Source” columnist.

During her tenure, Gerhart has worked on Style, National and Outlook in writer and editorial roles. She wrote “The Perfect Wife,” a biography of Laura Bush.

Gerhart graduated from Pennsylvania State University.

Mike Semel

Mike Semel joined the Post in March 2000. During his two-decade tenure, he has held the posts of assistant Virgina editor, Virgina editor, criminal justice editor and deputy local editor. He becomes deputy managing editor from his recent post of local editor.

Semel has a B.A. from Pomona College in California and a M.S. from Northwestern University.

Craig Timberg, a senior editor for collaborative investigations, has also been upped to deputy managing editor. He joined the Post in 1998, and since then, has served as a reporter, editor and foreign correspondent.

He also contributed to the newsroom’s Pulitzer Prize-winning coverage of the National Security Agency and the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Timberg graduated from Connecticut College.
