Darryl Fears

The Washington Post has tapped Darryl Fears to serve as senior environmental correspondent. In his new role, he will continue to lead the work on environmental disparities but will also “help convene discussions across the newsroom on how we can advance our coverage of this subject,” as per the Post.

Fears returns to the Post from a Nieman Fellowship at Harvard. He joined the newsroom in October 1999 and has covered various topics since then.

He covered environmental justice, climate, issues affecting wildlife nationally, the Interior Department, national race, ethnicity, immigration and criminal justice.

He also worked as a local race and demographics reporter at The Los Angeles Times and as a Southern correspondent/city hall bureau chief at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

He also served as Wayne County government and courts reporter at the Detroit Free Press.

Fears graduated from Howard University.
