WaPo adds two to its Opinion section

The following was sent out from The Washington Post:

The Washington Post today announced two new hires across the Opinions section with Shadi Hamid as columnist and editorial board member and Alexi McCammond as an opinions editor.

Shadi Hamid

Starting Oct. 1, Hamid will be a member of The Post’s editorial board and columnist, offering perspectives on culture, religion, foreign policy and other topics. He has been a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, research professor of Islamic studies at Fuller Seminary and a contributing writer for The Atlantic.

Alexi McCammond

McCammond joined The Post this August from Axios, where she was a national political reporter for more than 6 years, covering the Democratic party, 2022 midterms, 2020 presidential election and more. As an opinions editor, she will work on campaign coverage and the development of outside writers while continuing to make appearances on-air as an MSNBC contributor.

“We are thrilled to welcome Shadi and Alexi to Post Opinions,” said David Shipley, Opinions Editor. “They have the ability to both deepen and expand our report. Readers should be prepared for some wonderful work.”

Hamid’s latest book “The Problem of Democracy: America, the Middle East, and the Rise and Fall of an Idea” was published in Oct. 2022, and he is working on a new book “On Power” due out from Simon & Schuster in 2025. Hamid has been named one of the world’s top 50 thinkers by Prospect magazine.

During McCammond’s time at Axios, Forbes listed her as one of 30 Under 30 in 2020, and the National Association of Black Journalists named her “Emerging Journalist of the Year” in 2019.
