Walrus editor in chief Johnson departs

Jessica Johnson, editor in chief of The Walrus, Canada’s general interest magazine, has left. Her tweet reads:

“I’ve had so many happy memories there and it’s hard to say goodbye. But five years is a long time in the life of a magazine editor, and I’ve had a really good run.

“My departure comes as The Walrus celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2023. I am honoured to have been the steward of this iconic Canadian title. … It has been an extraordinary privilege. It has been an awesome responsibility.”

Johnson has been working freelance since 1997. She contributed to The Globe and Mail, The New Republic, Toronto Life, Reader’s Digest, and Elle. She was also a columnist at The Globe and Mail.

Johnson graduated from the University of British Columbia.
