Veteran WaPo education writer Anderson set to depart

Nick Anderson

Nick Anderson, a higher education writer at The Washington Post is set to leave after more than 18 years. He wrote on X/Twitter:

“I’m leaving The Washington Post at the end of this month. Nineteen years ago I came to The Post and reinvented myself as an education writer. Now, it’s time for another new chapter.”

Anderson joined the Post in 2005 as a staff writer covering education. From 2006 to 2012, he served as assistant Virginia editor for education, deputy education editor and education editor.

During his time at the Post, he also won the 2016 award from the Education Writers Association as top national beat reporter.

Prior to joining the Post, he was at the Los Angeles Times, where he worked for eight years as a Washington correspondent covering Congress and national politics.

He also worked as a correspondent at The Associated Press and as a staff writer at the San Jose Mercury News.

Anderson has a B.A. in English from Stanford University.
