Trotter to join The Athletic as national columnist

Jim Trotter

Jim Trotter will join The Athletic’s new Opinion desk as a national columnist. He begins May 8.

Trotter is an experienced journalist, having worked for NFL Media as a reporter/storyteller, as a NFL reporter at ESPN, as a senior writer at Sports Illustrated and as a NFL contributor at NBCUniversal.

He was also a sports writer at the San Diego Union-Tribune, where he worked for 18 years.

Commenting on his new role, Trotter said:

“I’m honored and humbled by the opportunity to work with such a talented staff, and I’m excited about having the freedom and support to go where the news leads me.”

Trotter has authored two books and is a graduate of Howard University.
