Thomas-Esquivel takes on new role at the Voice of America

Sandra Thomas-Esquivel

Sandra Thomas-Esquivel has been elevated to director of Voice of America’s Latin America Division.

She has been acting Latin Division Director since June 2022.

Her new appointment is effective as of April 23, 2023.

She’ll continue to be based in Washington, DC.

Thomas-Esquivel joined VOA in 2019 as Spanish Service Chief, overseeing journalists reporting on U.S. and Latin America and overall news coverage.

Prior to VOA, she held various local and network news executive roles at Univision and Telemundo in California, Texas and Mexico City.

Some of her past experience includes positions as Director, News of Mexico and Central America Region for Telemundo network, news director at Telemundo Dallas, news director at KDTV Univision 14, Senior Director of Local and Affiliate News for Univision News, and news director at Telemundo 52 Los Angeles.
