The Washington Post names Lac director of global live news

Josh du Lac

With the launch of breaking-news hubs in Seoul and London, The Washington Post wants a full integration of operations with the D.C. newsroom.

To do this, live news editor Josh du Lac has begun working closely with foreign editor Douglas Jehl to conceive what will become a 24/7 ballet. Lac will continue reporting to senior audience director Ryan Kellett, while also reporting to Jehl, serving as co-architect of the hubs with a major role in hiring, training and oversight.

With this, Lac has been appointed director of global live news.

The hubs’ core focus will be covering news as it unfolds in the U.S. and across the globe during nighttime hours in Washington. The hubs will be part of Foreign, but they will operate 24/7 in partnership with the general assignment news desk and other breaking-news teams.

Lac will be undertaking the key responsibility for developing the communication channels and handoff protocols. He will also maintain broad oversight of the general assignment team.

Lac has been with The Post for more than 15 years, joining as a pop music critic. He then served as an enterprise team reporter, and was then editor on the general assignment news desk. He now holds the post of live news editor, along with his expanded role as director, global news live.

He is also the co-founder of J Camp, a multicultural high school journalism program operated through the Asian American Journalists Association. Each summer, 42 students attend the all-expenses-paid program to learn from news anchors, local TV producers, magazine editors, award-winning reporters and top media executives.

Lac was also a staff writer at The Sacramento Bee and has worked as an intern/stringer at Peninsula Times Tribune.

Lac is a graduate of Whittier College.
