The Root appoints Robertson to EIC

Tatsha Robertson

The Root, one of the nation’s preeminent digital media outlets for Black news, politics, culture and opinion, has promoted Tatsha Robertson to editor in chief.

In her new role, Robertson will helm the annual Root 100 list of the most influential African Americans and The Root Institute, an annual gathering of the leading Black thought leaders.

She said:

“I’m thrilled to become editor in chief of The Root as we enter an extremely important election cycle. I look forward to building upon this important brand’s incredible legacy as a go-to source for unique political content and thought leadership for the Black community.”

An award-winning journalist and author, Robertson was recently deputy editor. Previously, she was a senior editor at People Magazine and served as deputy editor of Essence, where she launched its Washington, D.C. bureau.

She has worked at The Boston Globe for more than eight years, holding roles that included New York bureau chief. She was part of a team that won the Pulitzer Prize. She was also an adjunct professor at New York University.

Robertson is the recipient of 10 awards for news coverage from the National Association of Black Journalists, and was a finalist for Time Inc.’s Henry Luce Award for Reporting.

Robertson graduated from Ohio State University.
