The Observer has hired Shanti Das as a reporter covering news and investigations. She recently covered news, features and investigations from The Sunday Times.
She was formerly a reporter and editor at SWNS, where she reported on breaking news, court cases and human interest stories. She was also tasked with opening the agency’s first news office in New York.
Before that, Das studied for her NCTJ Diploma in Journalism at Brighton Journalist Works, during which she wrote for The Argus newspaper in Brighton.
Das was awarded News Story of the Year by the National Association of Press Agencies in 2017 and 2018 as well as being shortlisted for the Kevin Fitzpatrick Prize (Young Journalist of the Year) both years.
