The Messenger hires two for new sports vertical

NEW YORK – September 5, 2023 – Today, Dan Wakeford, Editor-in-Chief of The Messenger, announced the launch of The Messenger’s sports vertical under the leadership of Dan Kaufman.

Additionally, Jeff Goodman and Seth Davis join the sports desk, adding deep expertise and experience to this important area of coverage.

Jeff Goodman joins The Messenger as Senior Insider, Basketball. Goodman has covered basketball for the last two decades at all three levels – NBA, college, and high school. He has worked for ESPN, CBSSports, and FOXSports and most recently spent five years at ESPN as a multi-platform basketball insider – on SportsCenter, doing sideline for games, features, 1-on-1 sit-downs, and also establishing himself as the pre-eminent news-breaker in college basketball. Goodman joined Stadium in 2018.

Seth Davis also joins The Messenger as Senior Insider, Basketball. Davis is an award-winning sports writer, broadcaster, and best-selling author. Since 2004, Davis has been a mainstay of studio coverage of college basketball and the NCAA Tournament for CBS Sports and Warner Brother Discovery Sports. Davis wrote for The Athletic for six years and Sports Illustrated for 22 years. He is the author of nine books, including the New York Times best sellers Wooden: A Coach’s Life, When March Went Mad, The Game that Transformed Basketball, and his most recent book, Wake Up With Purpose! What I’ve Learned During My First Hundred Years, which he co-authored with Sister Jean. Davis has served as president of the U.S. Basketball Writers Association and, in April 2023, was inducted into the USBWA’s Hall of Fame.
