The Guardian Australia has appointed Calla Wahlquist as deputy rural and regional editor.
Wahlquist joined The Guardian Australia in December 2014 and has held various posts, including Perth correspondent, reporter and Melbourne chief of staff. She was a police reporter for The Sunday Times/PerthNow.
At The Examiner, Wahlquist served as an online/web producer, and a reporter covering courts, police and politics. She also wrote regular opinion columns about justice, gender issues, social issues and politics.
Wahlquist has a B.A. in journalism from Monash University in Melbourne.
