The Drum announces several staff promotions

The following excerpt announcement was sent out by The Drum:

John McCarthy, a senior reporter who has been with The Drum for almost seven years, is being promoted to media editor. Already author of the popular Future of Media newsletter, McCarthy will also head up a new Future of Media coverage strand The Drum will be introducing soon.

Imogen Watson is stepping up from reporter to senior reporter, specializing in creativity. Along with helming The Drum’s Creative Works platform, Watson is the go-to journalist for the inside story on the world’s best new creative campaigns.

Ellen Ormesher, who was previously editorial assistant, is moving up to staff writer. Ormesher will contribute to The Drum’s creative coverage, as well as producing content for a new work and wellbeing area of thedrum.com dedicated to exploring how the working world is changing during and post-pandemic.

Chris Sutcliffe, a highly versatile multimedia journalist who has played a key role establishing The Drum’s video production team, is to take up a new role within the editorial team as senior journalist. Sutcliffe’s coverage will focus on the agency business and media.

And Jen Faull has returned to The Drum after maternity leave. As a senior editor, the experienced journalist will cover an array of topics related to modern marketing.

The latest moves signify the continuation of a new editorial era at The Drum which has seen Cameron Clarke step up to overall editor, Rebecca Stewart become trends editor and Kenneth Hein and Amit Bapna join the business as U.S. editor and APAC editor-at-large respectively. Bapna supports The Drum’s APAC publisher Charlotte McEleny, who was this month named journalist of the year at the PRCA SEA Awards 2021.
