Telegraph to create 60 jobs as subscriptions rise

The Telegraph is investing in its newsroom, creating 60 jobs in the first six months of 2021. The move comes following the paper’s subscriber base surpassing the 600,000 mark and overtaking The Times.

The company is further planning on having 1m subscribers and 10m registrants signed up by 2023.

The new jobs on offer, some of which have already been filled and some are yet to be advertised, include:

  • Investigations reporter
  • Homepage producer
  • Digital edition content editor
  • Audio producer
  • Deputy digital picture editor
  • Social media editor
  • Evergreen content editor
  • Newsletter editor
  • Arts reporter
  • Deputy comment editor

However, the investment also requires some restructuring of the newsroom which will see the standalone Technology Intelligence team folded into the business desk. There is also likely to be one redundancy, with the remaining team covering either business or tech under business editor Chris Williams.

A Telegraph Media Group spokesperson said:

“Technology coverage remains integral to the Telegraph and we will continue to develop it as part of the business department.

“We continue to invest in journalism and are creating more than 60 new roles across editorial departments in the first half of this year, a multi-million pound investment.”
