South Platte Sentinel employees shift to remote work permanently

South Platte Sentinel and the Journal-Advocate have been closed since March 13 due to the pandemic. The company announced last week that the closure will be permanent, with staff members moving completely to remote work.

Al Manzi, CEO of Prairie Mountain Media, the company that owns the Journal-Advocate, said, “One of the facts of the world today is the tremendous economic impact on every business due to the shutdown.”

However, he also focused upon the fact that how employees have been successful to efficiently work from home.

As other businesses, the company is seeking new efficiencies, and Manzi expects that the local closure will be part of a wider, national trend. He also noted that this decision will not affect the newspaper’s commitment to the community.

The paper will continue to serve the community in the same way it has for the last 100-plus years. “Nothing will change from a reader’s or advertiser’s perspective,” he said.

Journal-Advocate publisher Brian Porter added, “The Journal-Advocate and South Platte Sentinel will continue to deliver what you have come to expect in our print news products and online, and we ask for your continued support as a reader and advertiser. If you don’t presently subscribe, please consider investing in local news.”
