Veteran journalist Brandon Roberts has taken the role of managing editor of Summerville Communications Inc., [South Carolina-based] publishers of The Summerville Journal Scene, The Berkeley Independent and Our Gazette in Goose Creek.
Roberts, 43, is a native of Eastern Kentucky who has worked mostly in print, but has spent some time in TV news, public relations and strategic communications.
With a career spanning nearly 20 years in journalism and the recipient of multiple awards, Roberts has consistently demonstrated a commitment to journalistic integrity, a passion for community and engaging storytelling.
“I think I bring a fresh perspective to our editorial team, along with a deep understanding of the evolving media landscape,” Roberts said. “I am confident that under my guidance, our newspapers will continue to provide our readers with high-quality, thought-provoking content.”
As managing editor, Roberts will lead the editorial team in shaping the newspaper’s coverage across a range of topics, from local news and politics to interesting features and event coverage.
“I look forward to an exciting chapter of growth, audience engagement and insightful reporting that empowers readers to make informed decisions,” Roberts said. “I am not a behind-the-desk editor, either. I believe in hitting the streets, attending the meetings and being at the events. Simply put, I believe in doing the work that enables me to do my job to the best of my ability. Covering the communities our newspapers serve is one thing but being a part of the communities we serve is another. I wholeheartedly believe in being a part of the community.”
