Slackman to oversee daily news report for NY Times

Michael Slackman

Michael Slackman, assistant managing editor, International at The New York Times, has taken over a new role. An excerpt from the announcement reads:

“In his new role, Michael will preside over the team that has eyes on all of our top stories, ensuring we have the competitive metabolism and careful editing to distinguish our report across all our major storylines. He will work closely with the rest of the masthead, department heads, the Home team, the Live team and our print hub to keep our coverage urgent, compelling, distinctive and independent.”

Previously, Slackman held the posts of Cairo bureau chief, Berlin bureau chief, international managing editor and international editor. He was Cairo bureau chief at the Los Angeles Times and Moscow bureau chief at Newsday.

Slackman graduated from Northeastern University.
