San Francisco Standard editor in chief Kevin Delaney sent out the following to the staff:
Hi everyone –
We’re excited to share that Dustin Gardiner is joining The Standard as a senior politics reporter. Dustin has been a SF-based politics reporter for Politico, where he’s been co-author of the influential California Playbook newsletter and distinguished himself with coverage of the many ways in which San Francisco, Silicon Valley, and the Bay Area drive the broader political conversation in Sacramento and Washington.
Dustin previously covered state politics for The San Francisco Chronicle, including from Washington, DC, where he reported on California’s congressional delegation. Prior to that, he spent a decade with The Arizona Republic, where he covered state and city politics.
At The Standard, Dustin will focus on state and congressional level politics as they impact SF — from Newsom’s presidential ambitions to Pelosi’s legacy — while also contributing to our coverage of city politics.
Dustin will start on Sept. 17 and work full-time from our SF office. He will join our politics team — completing our rebuilding of that group — and report to politics editor Greg Griffin.
