The San Francisco Examiner has tapped veteran journalist Allen Matthews as director of editorial operations overseeing all operational aspects of the integrated editorial program.
Matthews has previously worked as a freelance writer/editor. He was also executive director/development director at The Daily Californian, a nonprofit student-run media company.
He was also with the San Francisco Chronicle for more than 25 years, where he held numerous positions, including serving as deputy managing editor and assistant managing editor.
Matthews is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley.
Al Saracevic was named assistant managing editor for news and sports. He will be working under newly appointed editor-in-chief Carly Schwartz to help rebuild and reshape The Examiner’s newsroom.
Saracevic is also a San Francisco Chronicle veteran having worked with the company for more than 11 years, holding posts including business editor, sports editor, health editor and assistant metro editor.
Saracevic is a B.A. in English, economics, statistics and journalism from Rutgers University.
All new positions are expected to begin May 3.
