The San Francisco Chronicle has hired Yuri Avila as a graphics reporter. Avila joined from The New York Times, where she was a news assistant in the graphics department.
She reported for Animal Politico in Mexico City and worked at BuzzFeed News as a news reporter.
Avila said:
“Ever since I moved to the Bay Area, I’ve been reading The San Francisco Chronicle’s coverage on local issues. I wanted to be part of the team that provides the community with data and visuals that are approachable and engaging. I’m excited to start creating maps and graphics that can be useful to any reader, ranging from hard news to fun, softer content.”
Avila graduated from the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism.
Be sure to congratulate Avila on Twitter.
