The San Antonio Express-News has promoted JJ Velasquez to deputy editor, audience. He wrote on X/Twitter:

Recently, Velasquez held the post of audience analyst. He was previously a columnist at the San Antonio Report, where he previously held the posts of tech and cybersecurity reporter and audience engagement editor.
He was an editorial project manager at Advance Local, and has worked at Community Impact Newspaper for more than four years as an editor and reporter. He also reported for Texas newspapers the Laredo Morning Times and the Victoria Advocate.
Velasquez has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Texas at Austin.
