Michael Zapler, Politico Playbook editor, has taken over the role of managing editor for politics and Washington.
In his new role, he will drive coverage of the 2022 campaign while continuing to guide Playbook among other beats and products.
Zapler joined Politico in 2011 as deputy tech editor/tech reporter. He then served as deputy Congress editor, deputy managing editor and national politics editor. He then held the post of senior Congressional editor.
Prior to Politico, Zapler was at the San Jose Mercury News, where he has worked as a government reporter, State Capitol reporter and Washington correspondent. He was also a City Hall reporter at the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Zapler has a B.A. in politics from Oberlin College.
