Vestal was previously a news application developer at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and was an intern and then a contributor on the data desk at the Los Angeles Times. He has also worked at Investigative Reporters and Editors.
Vestal graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia, where he worked at the student paper.
