Jonathan Lai will join Politico as a data and politics editor. He comes from the Philadelphia Inquirer, where he has worked for more than a decade, recently as editor of data-driven storytelling.
In this role, Lai started and led a data-driven journalism team that focused on computational reporting methods, statistical analysis and innovation storytelling. He also covered voting rights and election administration as a data and democracy reporter.
He joined in June 2012 as an intern, and then served as a higher education reporter.
Lai has a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Chicago.
