Philly Inquirer promotes Sutton to managing editor

Charlotte Sutton

The Philadelphia Inquirer has tapped assistant managing editor for the business, health, and built environment desks Charlotte Sutton as managing editor, making her the third woman to hold the post in the paper’s 192-year history.

“Every day my admiration grows for The Inquirer, our talented staff, and especially the people and communities we serve at this pivotal time for our region and for journalism,” Sutton said. “I am so honored at this opportunity to help deliver the news and information that matters most to our readers.”

As assistant managing editor, Sutton led coverage on topics, including the pandemic and also hosted the Inquirer’s popular annual “Telling Your Health Story” seminar. She will continue to lead the paper’s coverage of the pandemic until a new health editor is named.

Sutton joined the Inquirer in 2015 and has previously served as its health and science editor.

Prior to this, Sutton was with The Tampa Bay Times, where she has worked as a Floridian and arts editor, health and medicine editor and senior editor for health and politics.
