NY Times welcomes back Giratikanon as Upshot’s senior editor

Tom Giratikanon

Tom Giratikanon has rejoined The New York Times as a senior editor for The Upshot. An excerpt from the announcement reads:

“He’ll be working with a small team across The Upshot, Graphics, Design and Interactive News, along with journalists from around the newsroom, to envision, prototype and build engaging, interactive journalism that helps our readers better understand the world and their place in it.”

Previously, Giratikanon at the Times for eight years, from April 2012 to March 2020. During that span he served as a graphics editor and assistant graphics editor. Recently, he was deputy publisher of Vox Media, where he joined as chief of staff for editorial.

He taught at Northwestern University’s Medill School and was a newsroom developer/data visualizer at The Boston Globe.

Giratikanon graduated from Northwestern University with a bachelor’s degree in journalism.
