The following excerpt was sent out from The New York Times’ Kevin Quealy, editor of The Upshot:
We’re excited to announce two new additions to the Upshot.
First, Eve Washington will join our team as a graphics and multimedia editor.
Eve came to us as an intern last summer, and she made an impression immediately with her enthusiasm, deep technical knowledge and a mind-bending ability to soak up new skills.
Eve has a degree in computer science and hails from the Detroit suburbs, where her family still lives.
Second, Ben Blatt will join our team as a reporter focusing on data-driven features and sports analytics.
Ben comes to us from the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he worked for four years as an analyst, helping the team use data in their decision-making, particularly in the draft.
Beyond sports, Ben’s breadth and creativity make him a perfect fit for the Upshot.
Ben also co-wrote “I Don’t Care If We Never Get Back” about his attempt to visit all 30 Major League Baseball ballparks on a mathematically optimal 30-day road trip. His passion, he says, is in reporting deeply into unique topics that other people have not covered.
