NY Times taps Schmall as its new correspondent

Emily Schmall

Emily Schmall is an award-winning foreign correspondent at The New York Times. She has been named the Times’ newest correspondent based in New Delhi.

Previously, Schmall worked at The Associated Press for more than 6 years. She joined as a correspondent covering the Texas economy and news across 700 miles of the Lone Star State.

Later on, she held the post of South Asia correspondent, reporting and writing breaking news and enterprise, and editing and collaborating with a team of journalists across South Asia.

She has also worked as a Peru stringer/Argentina-based TV news writer for Reuters. She was also country director at New Narratives. She also served as a chief reporter of the Forbes 400, and wrote and fact-checked regularly for Forbes and Forbes.com.

She was also a copy editor at the Miami Herald and an intern at NPR. She also worked as a reporting intern at the Financial Times.

Schmall is a B.A. in Spanish from Bard College and a M.A. in economics and journalism from Columbia University – Graduate School of Journalism.
