Jay Root will join The New York Times as an investigative reporter in the Albany bureau. He begins in May. Recently, he has been working as an investigative reporter at the Houston Chronicle.
Before that, he held the same post at the Texas Tribune. He has also reported for The Associated Press. Additionally, during his time there, he was twice named AP Staff Reporter of the Year for his watchdog reporting.
He also served as Austin bureau chief at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Root graduated from the University of Texas at Austin.
