Liz Pierson is now an Instagram weekend editor at The New York Times working closely with Photo, Audience, Video, Graphics, Design and desks across the newsroom to develop and program the newspaper’s overall presence on Instagram during the weekends.
She will also work with journalists across the newsroom to shape the way the Times reports breaking news and enterprise stories on Instagram, and will act as the main point of contact on weekends for the newsroom as they contribute to the platform.
Pierson enters this new role after serving as a casual photo editor at The Times across many desks, from the Home Page to Opinion to the digital news desks and Instagram.
She also helped launch the Social News Desk at Condé Nast, a team focused on covering breaking and trending news for all of the Condé Nast titles. There, she also managed a small team of visual editors and helped the magazines experiment with trending news stories and visual stories across their digital platforms.
She also aided in launching the photo department at Mashable, where the team won several POYi awards for visual editing and storytelling.
Pierson is a graduate of the University of Missouri.
