NY Times taps Brody and Josephs on the Flex desk

L to R: Rachel Brody, Brian Josephs

The following excerpt was sent out from editor of The New York Times Flexible editing desk Pete Blair:

Rachel Brody joins the Times with more than eight years of news and opinion editing experience. Most recently she was a senior editor for The Appeal, a nonprofit news outlet focused on the criminal legal system.

Previously, she was deputy opinion editor at Newsweek and associate opinion editor at U.S. News & World Report in Washington. At both of those publications, she edited columns and commentary about politics, health care, culture and more.

For five years, Rachel volunteered with Street Sense Media, a D.C. newspaper that elevates the voices of people experiencing homelessness. She is also a freelance music writer, covering concerts in the New York City area.

Brian Josephs spent the last couple of years working on Vice’s news show, “Vice News Tonight.” He has had stints editing for Complex and as a staff writer for Spin magazine along with a decade of freelance experience for publications such as The Village Voice, GQ, Pitchfork, The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times and The Guardian.
