NY Times taps Anthes on the health and science desk

Emily Anthes

Emily Anthes has joined The New York Times health and science desk full-time. She had been working on a temporary basis for the past year.

Anthes was a freelance science writer for 15 years. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Atlantic, Wired, Nature, Slate, Businessweek, and elsewhere.

Her book, Frankenstein’s Cat: Cuddling Up to Biotech’s Brave New Beasts, won the AAAS/Subaru SB&F Prize for Excellence in Science Books and was longlisted for the PEN/E.O Wilson Literary Science Writing Award.

Additionally, her freelance work for Nature won the NIHCM Foundation Health Care Print Journalism Award in 2016.

Anthes has a master’s degree in science writing from MIT and a bachelor’s degree from Yale.
