NY Times shines at SOPA Awards

The New York Times received three awards of excellence and two honorable mentions from the Society of Publishers in Asia.

Michael Slackman, assistant managing editor for international, said:

“We all know what amazing work our colleagues in Asia produce day in and day out — often under the most difficult of circumstances — so it is great to see this well-deserved recognition. We are especially pleased to see that newer forms of journalism, now such a central part of our report, were among those cited.”

The awards were given to:

  • The award for excellence in journalism innovation went to Mika Gröndahl, Keith Collins and James Glanz.
  • Barbara Marcolini, Haley Willis, K. Rebecca Lai, Caroline Kim, Drew Jordan, Tiffany May and Austin Ramzy won for excellence in video reporting.
  • Excellence in information graphics went to Jin Wu, Anjali Singhvi and Jason Kao.
  • Ellen Barry won honorable mention for feature writing and the Times Chinese website won honorable mention in arts and cultural reporting.
  • The newspaper also had three finalists for excellence in journalistic innovation, for excellence in human rights reporting and for excellence in breaking news reporting.
