We are delighted to announce Josh Haner’s promotion to a deputy of the Photo department. As The Times’s first photo futurist, Josh has excelled at leading technology initiatives, presentation innovations, workflow enhancements and tool development related to photography and visual storytelling.

An extremely versatile journalist, Josh is an accomplished photographer, editor, technician, producer and strategist.

Josh will continue to build on collaborative efforts across disciplines, including product, design, operations, fieldwork and editorial planning. He will take on more responsibilities as well as the management of several teams in the department in the coming months.

Josh started at The Times as a photo editor in 2006. Prior to becoming a staff photographer in 2010, he co-founded and helped edit The Lens Blog. In 2014, Josh won the Pulitzer Prize for feature photographyfor his work documenting the recovery of Jeff Bauman, a survivor of the Boston Marathon bombing.

He spent seven years documenting the global effects of climate change, engaging in ambitious multimedia newsroom collaborations, and often utilizing video, drone work and time lapses in his storytelling.

Josh’s depth of experience, his innovative thinking, and his deeply generous and collaborative approach will help shape the future operation of the department.

Please join us in congratulating Josh.
